Park & Recreation Commission

The Park and Recreation Commission has a monthly meeting on the second Monday of each month. All meetings are open to the public and will be held in person at the Altamont Guest House at 7:00PM.

The Park and Recreation Board consists of seven members, all of which are appointed by the Mayor of West Springfield. The Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to the Mayor under his/her supervision. The Commission shall review and report to the Mayor on matters related to the operation and functions of the parks, the Park and Recreation Department, and Park and Recreation facilities. These matters include but are not limited to:

  • Operation of programs
  • Viability of programs
  • Program needs
  • Adequacy of staff
  • Procedures for the use of facilities
  • Appropriateness of budget requests
  • Appropriateness of expenditures
  • Appropriateness of policies with suggested revisions as applicable
  • Appropriateness of fees
  • Short-term needs of the Park and Recreation Department
  • Long-range planning needs and options
  • Appropriateness of long-term capital projects
  • Policies and procedures deemed needed to be implemented or deleted in order to enhance services for town residents
