ROUNDUP OF UPCOMING WEST SPRINGFIELD EVENTS AND COMMUNITY INFORMATION
West Springfield, MA: The Town of West Springfield is reminding residents about upcoming events and information that may be of interest to the community at large.
Town Census – Residents will be receiving their census forms from the Town beginning the week of January 20. The mailing will also include dog license renewal information as well as information related to resident surveys from the Town’s vendor, FlashVote. Hartsprings Monthly Donation Event – On Saturday, January 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Hartsprings Foundation will be hosting its monthly donation drive in front of Town Hall, 26 Central Street, West Springfield. Donate your gently used clothing, linens, and household items to support area youth programs. Senior/Veteran Tax Work-Off Program – The Town is accepting applications for forty (40) positions in the 2025 Senior/Veteran Tax Work-Off Program. Selected participants are required to work 85 hours in their work assignment to earn a rebate of $1,275 on their real estate taxes. Applications are available in the lobby of Town Hall, 26 Central Street, West Springfield. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2025. Motor Vehicle Excise Bills – The Town will issue motor vehicle excise tax bills on January 31. These bills will be due for payment by Tuesday, March 4. Residents are encouraged to review their bills promptly and make payment by the due date to avoid any penalties or interest. Payments may be made in person or by mail to the Collector’s Office 26 Central Street, Suite 9, West Springfield, MA 01089 or by using the Town’s online bill pay system, Unipay (https://unipaygold.unibank.com/). Bone Health & Fall Prevention Event – The Council on Aging and Fallon Health will be hosting a Bone Health & Fall Prevention event, on Tuesday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center located at 128 Park Street, West Springfield. The event will be aimed at empowering older adults to take control of their well-being and enhance their quality of life. This informative session will provide expert insights on maintaining strong bones, preventing falls, and incorporating practical tips for staying active and safe. “Romance is For Everyone” Author Talk with Liz Alden – Event hosted by the West Springfield Public Library (“WSPL”) on Wednesday, February 5 at 6:00 p.m. at the library at 200 Park Street, West Springfield. After sailing around the world with her husband, Liz Alden settled in Western Massachusetts to write romances with wholesome men and independent mature women. “Everlasting Herbarium” Workshop with Andrea Cressotti-Young – On Tuesday, February 18 at 6:00 p.m. WSPL will host local business owner Andrea Cressotti-Young for Everlasting Herbariums, featuring naturally dried flowers to create a whimsical floral landscape encapsulated in a glass terrarium. Guests will leave with a dried floral care card that includes tips on keeping the piece looking beautiful for years to come. Space is limited so register early! “Shakespeare Shake Up” Workshop with Thomas Caron – WSPL will host an 8-week workshop beginning Monday, February 24 at 6:00 p.m. Join local actor Thomas Caron in exploring the world of Shakespearean plays in a new, fun and exciting way. Art Displays at the Library – During the month of February, WSPL will showcase Branden Bruso Photography in its art gallery. “As a professional photographer I’m always looking to capture something special and over the past couple of years I’ve done just that. My showing at the West Springfield Public Library will be featuring photos from my travels over the past two years. Come and see some of the things I’ve photographed which include the Las Vegas Strip at sunrise, America’s oldest penitentiary, many gilded age estates, and much more!”. In addition, the Hampden Charter School of Science Middle School will have an art display in the Antonia Golinski Foisy Youth room art wall from February 1st through the 28th. Students will create pictures representing Black history and featuring black artists in celebration of Black History Month.
Reminder About Snow and Ice Removal – The Town would like to remind residents that, in accordance with local ordinances, snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours of the conclusion of a weather event. Clearing walkways promptly helps ensure safety for pedestrians and prevents accidents due to slippery conditions. Residents are encouraged to take action as soon as possible to comply with the ordinance and help maintain a safe and accessible community for all. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our sidewalks clear this winter season.
